Sitting higher up and travelling at higher speeds cyclists have different needs
Secure bridge parapets and good deck traction are essential
Pedestrians sharing the same bridge need their own needs to be taken into account
Cycle paths often cross over waterways or obstacles. To be safe for bicycles, we provide level bridges with decking with good traction. Cycle path bridges need to be safe in all weather conditions, promoting visibility, and allowing enough room for cyclists and those travelling on foot to navigate safely.
We recommend a minimum width of 1.5m to be used on cycle paths.
It is usual for cycleway bridges to have a parapet 1400mm high
Bridges used by cyclists usually have a 4-rail parapet, which we can fit to any of our standard bridge designs.
